stepping out
11 04 2005My first scenic design model is done. It’s a relief, definately. There’s room for improvement, but I’m pretty proud of it. The show’s Oedipus Rex, the style is classical, but not your usual white stone and clean lines. It’s neglected and overgrown. (I figured the Thebians have been a little too distracted to trim bushes etc for a while.)
That’s pretty cool. Although I’m wondering, are the trees actually going to look like branches with plastic bags over them, or is that just part of the scaling-downness? Also, will there be any color, or just the black/white?
This is technically what’s called a “white model” – the idea is mostly to get an over-all feel for the set and how things will work in the space. It’s in eighth-inch scale, which is really pretty small, so getting the level of detail that you want in inclding paint treatments, etc, is difficult.
Oh, and no, the trees won’t be quite like they are here. I wanted someway to get a feel for the full-ness of real trees, complete with leavesm, etc, and this was the best thing that I could come up with at the time.
